Café Gratitude’s new menu hits our stores today, and what better way to close up shop than to bring back some of our favorite items from times past.  Here’s a rundown of the changes:

Some of my favorite raw entrees are back on the menu – ‘I am Terrific’ Pad Thai sports a complex palate of basil, mint, and scallions over a bed of crunchy noodles and greens in a creamy almond thai sauce.  This dish is easily my favorite special of all time, and one I won’t soon forget.  ‘I am Giving’ Kale Salad also returns, and with a bold ginger tanini dressing that definitely outdoes its predecessor.

Such sweet Springtime weather. I am cleaning out our yurt today and I feel SO GOOD! There is something about dusting off winter that is so wonderful. The cobwebs, both inner and outer, the rearranging of what works for our life at this time... Today we had more salad than cooked food, which is always a sign of Spring! 

In what ways do you clean out the winter for the newness of Spring? 

Hi,                                   So happy to be home from Hawaii. The workshop on Community building was amazing and we are grateful to be here and getting ready for Spring! We have cabbage in the garden and the tomatoes in the greenhouse are looking strong and healthy!                                                                                 We had a surprise “hail/snow storm” last week! It was warm and beautiful and then all of a sudden it got cold and windy and then windy with thunder and lightning and SNOW!  I am including a picture, as it is hard to imagine.

I am loving not wearing a jacket, first time this morning, when I get up early to feed the chickens. I notice I am starting to feel like tomatoes, and zucchini, and strawberries sound good. I love how my diet choices change with the seasons. I was sharing with Matthew yesterday how wonderful it is to walk about the farm when it is quiet and listen to the sounds of nature and feel my heart connecting with the earth. I wish that feeling for everyone. 

Hi Everyone,

We are coming up for air after so much rain.  Our stove pipe was blown over in the last storm and mud was abundant, for sure!  However, we also love all the rain and the green grass that is covering the farm. The chickens, while wet, are still loving being out and about! The almond and apricot blossoms are over, and the first of the nectarine and early peach blossoms are still on the trees though not as full as they first were. The apple and Italian plum blossoms are full and sweet smelling.  I love this time of year.  The promise of those blossoms have me remembering all of the fruit that follows and the bees are more evident. 

Today, as about this same time last year, a group of students from UC Berkeley are here visiting the farm, cleaning out pens and helping make the family meal. They love it here, and are so grateful for the experience that is adding something precious to their educational experience. The farm crew loves all the visitors that start showing up once rainy season is past and the sun is out.
