Greetings! My name is Shoshana Frumkin, and I have been committed to health, healing and transformation most of my life. What drives me is a deep desire for us to heal our wounds together, recover our connection to the power of love, healing our hearts and health while enjoying meaningful connection and taking care of our planet.

A big thank you to Terces and Matthew from all of us!  Thank you for being fierce love warriors, for always being a space of love, and for listening with compassion for all of us.  Thank you for always seeming to get bigger!  Thank you for holding the space for dialogue and giving us the opportunity to share our amazing organic food and love!!!

It isn’t every day that you hear great music with a real message.  I mean, not everyone is John Lennon or Bob Marley – right?

That’s what I thought, but I had to think again when Erin Ross introduced me to Luminaries, a Venice based consciousness-expanding Hip Hop group whose history as teachers, social workers, activists, MCs, and instruments of service informs their music and their message.  These are not just incredible musicians, but messengers of hope, whose song titles on their debut album, “One,” read like a list of mantras: “Everything is One,” “Only Love,” “Show the World,” “Peace” and “Be the Change.”

Healdsburg locals, Pam Bell and Jim Willis have come together  to present ‘The Nand Collection,’ a display of one man’s collection of rare and antique Himalayan art and antiquities.  This exhibit runs through the end of October, and I assure you that it is not an opportunity to be missed!

Rama Tirwani is a collector, publisher, and the owner of ‘Pilgrims Book Store’ of Kathmandu, Delhi and Varanassi .  His 35-year journey of buying and selling rare books has yielded much more than words on a page.  He possesses an immense collection of rare art and artifacts – the likes of which grace only a few museums on this side of the Atlantic.

If you picked up a newspaper today, you would have seen headlines about Presidential candidates, the Occupy Wall Street movement, Facebook’s business deals, and an Israeli soldier about to be freed in Palestine. Beyond the front page, you might read about turmoil in the Slovakian government or Obama’s jobs bill. Most of these stories seem important and worth a read. But are they the most important stories of the day?                                             For some time now, scientists have been alerting us that Earth is facing a “sixth extinction,” meaning that in our lifetimes up to half of the species that currently live on our planet could be wiped out. The previous five extinctions, taking place over the 4 billion years the Earth has existed, are thought to have been caused by extreme events like meteors and volcanic activities. But the current mass extinction we’re going through is caused by humans; our pollution, destruction of habitat, and overpopulation are just a few ways we’re wiping out hundreds of plants and animals every single day.
Isn’t the prospect of losing forever creatures like the elephant, polar bear, and chimpanzee important enough to make the front pages of the paper, every single day? Why isn’t our national conversation dominated by how to save the honey bee (whose extinction would mean collapse of most ecosystems worldwide)? I’m not saying we shouldn’t be worried about our economy, that articles about endangered orangutans should replace quality information about the government’s plans to create jobs. But if we don’t work fast to learn about the crisis and to save species across the globe, the unemployment rate will be the least of our worries, since human survival depends on all the species that are now at risk.

If you’d like to learn about the Sixth Extinction, we’re pleased to announce that we’re holding a screening of a new documentary, Call of Life, which explores this topic. Watching this film might give you information and a perspective you will never get by watching or reading the daily news! The film not only looks at the crisis in biodiversity, but also the elements of human nature that have brought us to this point, and how we can change our thinking in order to reverse course.

Watch the Trailer below, and Join us in Berkeley on Thursday, 10/20!

The World Vegetarian Festival comes to San Francisco, October 1-2, 2011!

What better place for health-conscious, compassionate and animal-loving people from across the world to converge, than San Francisco? For twelve years now, the San Francisco Vegetarian Society has thrown its World Veg Festival, which celebrates vegetarianism as a means to become healthy, improve animal welfare and protect the natural environment. Held in the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park, the fest invites anyone--vegetarian, vegan or neither--to come out for the weekend to experience delicious meat-free meals, learn to prepare heart-healthy dishes, explore the ethical dimensions of a vegetarian diet, and socialize. There will be guest speakers, such as veggie luminaries Colin Campbell and John Robbins, activities, vendors, and even speed dating! So however you want to approach or experience vegetarianism, or even if you want to get a taste of it for the first time, the World Veg Festival can offer you a fun and educational day in the city!

Date:        Saturday, Oct. 1 & Sunday, Oct. 2, 10am - 6pm
Location:    SF County Fair Building, 1199 9th Ave, San Francisco, California 94122
Tickets:     $8 at the door, or purchased through Eventbrite.

Kaci Christian is a woman with a mission.  Her life has seen her through various careers: as a lecturer, investigative reporter, TV news anchor, sign language interpreter, motivational speaker, and more.  At heart, she is a storyteller - a bridge between the worlds of those who know and do not know, see and do not see, hear and do not hear.

The connecting thread for her has always been a genuine passion for people, animals, the our planet, and a desire to make a positive difference in the world.  That mission is clear in her latest endeavor: The WE conference.

**Event Update: This Event is not being catered by Cafe Gratitude!  Sorry for the misinformation!**                             Hi there. Jon Marro here. I am a privileged member of the Cafe Gratitude community and the transformation of mind, body and soul it provides. I recently moved down with a bunch of the torch bearers to help open up the location(s) in Los Angeles, because I feel it is one of my life's callings to spread this food and philosophy all across the planet. I feel incredibly blessed to live in California. I feel it in many ways is on the leading edge of innovativeness, wellness and consciousness. The Bay Area, where the Cafes were birthed, I believe is an even crisper niche within the California niche, and The Cafe Gratitude Community is a treasure trove within those niches and a concentrated cluster of some of the most vibrant individuals I've found in my global wanderings. Let's call it for this blogs sake: The leading edge of leading edges. So within that, I feel it is my/our duty to offer and provide this wealth of knowledge, energy, and love to those who may not be in direct access to it's wellspring. How I am taking that on is by widening the circle. Bringing this feeling and the tools of this community to other communities in a giant global snowballing-effect experiment called (tentatively): Who wants to wake up once and FOR ALL and live in Oneness? The snowball's next stop is coming to Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz at an event called: Alive. In ConcertAlive. In Concert will feature a screening of the film: May I Be Frank, paired with a meal inspired by the food style of Cafe Gratitude. Then, once your body is fed, we will nourish your soul with the musical concert portion of the evening. You will join musicians of this movement such as Parker Ainsworth (our community's Bob Dylan), the musical majesty of Avasa & Matty Love, Seattle-based activists and troubadors holding the gratitude push-pin on the Northwest corner of the map: Luc and The Lovingtons and former gratitude employees and managers turned rock stars: The Makepeace Brothers. I promise you, with live food in your bellies and live music in your ears your lives will be transformed. Alive. In Concert gives spectators the experiential feeling of what's possible when you literally band together to live in concert and are devoted to uplifting and awakening together. Love is where it's at and Love would LOVE to see you there. Join us! For more information please visit: http://www.facebook.com/#!/Alive.Inconcert and spread the word!

Thank you!
